Position Overview
This is a skilled leadership, administrative, supervisory, and technical position directing the operations of the Infrastructure Engineering Department. The individual in this position is responsible for maintaining and updating the Kenton County Subdivision Regulations to reflect changing state statutes, emerging trends, and advancing technology in infrastructure engineering. This position includes providing technical advice to the Kenton County Planning Commission through presentations at public hearings.The job also includes supervising the activities of infrastructure inspectors engaged in the inspection of bulk earthwork, utility construction, subgrade preparation, subdivision pavement and curbs, and sidewalk to ensure compliance with the subdivision regulations. Supervision of staff that performs infrastructure plan and subdivision plat review to ensure compliance with the subdivision regulations is also required.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and implements departmental budget.
- Implements and administers all aspects of the subdivision regulations.
- Prepares staff recommendations and presents to the Kenton County Planning Commission.
- Monitors proposed legislative changes affecting the subdivision regulations.
- Supervises the activities of all Infrastructure Engineering staff.
- Maintains a database of performance bonds for uncompleted infrastructure.
- Leads roundtable discussions with contractors and developers to discuss issues.
- Provides engineering assistance to other departments as necessary.
- Attends meetings at the request of the Executive Director.
- Maintains a respectful and polite attitude toward the public at all times.
- Reinforces the importance of customer service to staff at all times.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering, construction management or a closely related field.
- At least four years of supervisory experience with continually increasing responsibilities.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Skills & Certifications
- A Kentucky License Professional Engineer is preferred but not required.
- Valid drivers license required.
Special Requirements
- Employees must maintain required licenses and certifications.
- Must be able to manage various personalities in sensitive situations.
- Exposure to construction site risks and varying weather conditions is expected.
Working Conditions
Work is performed both in the office and on construction sites. Physical activities may include standing or walking with intermittent sitting or stooping.
Probationary Period
This role has an initial probationary period of six months.
