Our Building Code Administration Department ensures compliance with the Uniform Building Code to uphold public health, safety, and welfare.
Position Summary:
The Associate Building Official plays a crucial role in ensuring that construction projects within PDSKC’s jurisdiction comply with approved construction plans and the Uniform Building Code. This role involves inspections, document reviews, and collaboration with contractors and government agencies to maintain high safety and structural standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site inspections of permitted construction projects.
- Review and interpret construction documents, including structural, mechanical, and firesafety drawings.
- Obtain ICC B1, M1, B2, and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner certificationswithin 18 months.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic inspection records.
- Work collaboratively with contractors and local/state government agencies.
- Inspect buildings for compliance with safety codes and issue certificates of occupancy.
- Assist with technical memos, reports, and customer service inquiries.
- Perform all aspects of required inspections, including accessibility and energycompliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or associate’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture,or fire science preferred.
- High school diploma with a minimum of 3 years of relevant construction experienceconsidered.
- Ability to obtain Level I Building Inspector certification within 18 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Office and fieldwork in varied weather conditions.
- Exposure to construction site risks.
- Physical activity includes walking, climbing ladders, and occasional use of lifts/scaffolds.
- Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed.
Additional Requirements:
- Subject to a drug screening test and background check.
- Six-month probationary period applies.
